Working as learning

I find it very interesting that engineers commonly define their job searches by what they know and wish to learn next:

// To elaborate on what Matt said, I’m primarily a JavaScript/AngularJS engineer but have done a fair amount of server side/backend work with Clojure. Looking to continue that backend track but with Python, since that is more widely used than Clojure and something I have some familiarity with. //

Perhaps this is the luxury of knowing you will get a job and the comp will be standardized between x & y (employer market consensus).

They don’t talk about company culture or benefits or product market or management or personnel. They talk about working on X Tech and learning it. Very solo.
