The theory of the first read (mobile edition)

Newspapers used to (still?) think about first reads and second reads.

In a market (say a city or a country) there is a paper that the
top/most/local people read first.

So if you aren’t the #1 guy, you shouldn’t cover the straight news. You
should prepare a second read on the news. You do the opinion or numbers or
foreign angle.

Second read.

So it appears NYTNow for example is designed as a second read. Almost as
fast as twitter (updated 5x per day? vs 1,000,000,000x per day…)

But these guys must be mad. I never get to the second read. I just keep
first reading.

Why? Because I look at my phone 60 different times per day!
