A company culture for cats and creatives

Visited an impressive company yesterday. It is full of brilliant PhDs and scientists and makes tons of money — the money mostly for the owners.

It would be impossible to keep these geniuses together through cash alone.

So they talk and work a lot on hobbies — a venture firm, a hacker lab, social purpose projects, internal competitions.

It’s like Google in other words.

Or a University.

People are part of an organization with multiple aims and niches to inhabit. And a governing set of missions that make you want to say “what we do here is X” – not “what I work on”.

The money you can replicate across the street in your startup or new hedge fund. The mission vibe you cannot.
