NYT has about 1250 newsroom staff.
Monthly operating cost is $150mm.
About $100k per month per newsroom staff.
So 10x cost vs the likely $10k/month salary for the news people.
They collect about $155mm in revenue per month so they are a little profitable.
By contrast I suspect the New Yorker is 100 people or so, with proportional cost of $10mm per month. They are rumored to have say 1mm subscribers who pay perhaps $120 per year. So $100mm revenue plus another 50mm ad revenue? So maybe they make money.
